What is Openvpn Tunnel?

OpenVPN Access Server is a set of installation and configuration tools included in a package that simplifies the rapid deployment of VPN remote access solutions.

Its core is based on the popular OpenVPN open source software project, and maintains compatibility with it, so that the deployed VPN is immediately compatible with OpenVPN client software across multiple platforms and devices.

When an open source solution requires a high degree of understanding of all the possible configuration options of the software, OpenVPN Access Server provides a web-based interface where the options are laid out in a graphical user interface, which helps to simplify the learning curve.

It also comes with a set of built-in installer files for OpenVPN Connect Client, which is used to connect Windows and macOS computers to the OpenVPN access server, and these are pre-configured and can be used immediately after installation.

There are also clients for Android and iOS.

These clients have built-in options to import the required settings from the access server, making deployment on client devices very easy.

Linux is supported by using the open source OpenVPN project provided by default in most major Linux distributions.

Therefore, the OpenVPN access server simplifies the configuration and management of OpenVPN-based secure remote access deployments.

  • Tunnel any IP subnet or virtual Ethernet adapter through a single UDP or TCP port
  • Use one or more machines to configure a scalable, load-balanced VPN server farm, these machines can handle thousands of dynamic connections from incoming VPN client
  • Use all the encryption, authentication, and authentication features of the OpenSSL library to protect your private network traffic, because it passes through the Internet
  • Use any cipher, key size, or HMAC digest (for datagram integrity checking) supported by the OpenSSL library
  • Choose between traditional encryption based on static keys or public key encryption based on certificates
  • Use static, pre-shared keys or TLS-based dynamic key exchange
  • Use real-time adaptive link compression and traffic shaping to manage link bandwidth utilization
  • The public endpoint is a dynamic tunnel network, such as DHCP or dial-in clients
  • Establish a tunnel network through a connection-oriented stateful firewall without using explicit firewall rules
  • Tunnel network through NAT
  • Use virtual tap devices to create a secure Ethernet bridge, and Use GUI to control OpenVPN on Windows or Mac OS X.
  • OpenVPN routes users through its own server, providing its users with private access to the Internet. The user connects to the Internet indirectly through the OpenVPN server, using the server's IP address and related geographic location. For users, their identities are still protected and they can access geo-locked streaming services from other countries.

Now it's the technical bit. OpenVPN uses OpenSSL for VPN connections. This is a huge software library for the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, which is OpenVPN. OpenVPN also offers unparalleled customizability, so you can be sure to maintain your privacy on various platforms.

It is important to remember that OpenVPN is not a VPN provider. It does not add a software to your desktop, nor does it add a simple plug-in to your web browser, you only need to click once to connect. There is also no simple OpenVPN app that can be installed on a phone or tablet.

OpenVPN is an encryption protocol that can connect to your VPN, which means you need to know exactly how to configure it to your specific server. All these technical steps are a free connection trade-off-you need to know what you are doing to access it.
